Emelec was founded on April 28,1929,by
George Lewis Capwell. This club is not
just a soccer team, its a real sporting
institution because it manages many
different types of sports, such as baseball,
basketball, soccer being the most important.
Having more than eight thousand members,
EMELEC has a very solid foundation of
fans. Emelec stands for “The Ecuadorian
Electric Company”.
As
far as “EMELEC” soccer,
it has been national champion 10 times
(57, 61, 65, 72, 79, 88, 93, 94, 2001,
2002). It has been a semifinalist
and finalist in the Copa Merconorte
in the year 2000 and 2001 respectively,
and once a semifinalist in the Copa
Libertadores of the Americas in 1995.
Emelec has participated seventeen
times in the Copa Libertadores.

Emelec is also the owner of the “George
Lewis Capwell” stadium. Emelec
is the first club to own it’s
own stadium in Ecuador. If we talk about
EMELEC, we can’t forget the “Boca
Del Pozo”. They are an organization
of loyal EMELEC fans. We can’t
also forget our historical striker,
Carlos Alberto Juarez, with 138 goals
between the years 1996 and 2003. Well
